Packages installation for PowerPC (Darwin 6 / MacOSX Jaguar)There are many ways to begin installing pakages from The GNU-Darwin distribution :
base filesThe base files are everything you need to start using the package manager and the ports system. They can be installed through the two-steps installer: curl http://yves.gnu-darwin.org/two-steps -o two-steps base distributionThe distribution consists of the base files plus 125 packages: applications, libraries and utilities. It can be installed either through the two-steps installer: curl http://yves.gnu-darwin.org/two-steps -o two-stepsOr through the One Step Installer: curl http://www.gnu-darwin.org/one_stop | cshTwo-steps is mostly a rewrite of One Step with an added facility to interrupt downloads and resume at a later time, something very handy considering the hundreds of Mb to be downloaded. Some compatibility improvements have also been included regarding Darwin 6 / MacOSX 10.2 GNU-Darwin OfficeA very interresting offer on CD-R which installs the base distribution and many other interresting packages, a total of 187 packages including the Gimp, OpenOffice and Mozilla which are not included in the base distribution because of the hudge download size involved. Once you are done with either method, you can start using the package systemYou may install new packages using pkg_add pkg_add -rf openoffice (fetch package and installs it)You may also want to look at the downloads page which tracks interresting new packages releases. You can also get informations about installed packages using pkg_info pkg_info (shows short infos on all installed packages)and you can also look in /var/db/pkg which contains the database of all installed packages.
